A few random followup comments:

1) The EJ/Stefano promotional pics. That stuff always bugs me, like that's the point I was trying to make (though I hadn't recognized that particular pic). Did "EJ" and "Stefano" get these photos done? Why not use one of the in-character pics that go into SOD? (Like taken at a character's wedding or something.)

2) The EJ/Nicole kiss... there is this Marlena dream/fantasy from 1996 where she meets John in the hallway and she's holding Belle, who was about 2, and it's kind of strange since Marlena is fantasizing about John yet all she does is hug him. Then I realized, it's because she's holding Belle. They did another one like that in that time period where J&M kiss (in a fantasy) standing behind Belle, who's looking forward. Times have changed I guess!

3) I never understand these "adult birthdays for kids" they do on Days. If they went to such lengths to get the prince and princess stuff, a pre-printed sign, etc, why not have some, you know, KIDS THERE? Not only Johnny and Allie, as I said above, but like her preschool class or something. Just seemed not well thought out to me.

4) Loved the J&M stuff in the townhouse though the budget talk still seems silly. Clearly these people have money - I mean I liked the flirtatious dialogue around it, but I wish they'd just drop the idea that they're broke.

I agree, Ellie. Esp. since Marlena is flashing that BIG rock on her finger. :eyeroll: And living in a TOWNHOUSE for crying out loud!

LOL@ John wanting to take a break from budget crap. I don't blame him, Marlena was looking mighty hot!

Loved yesterday's show!...aside from the Bope/Stefano stuff in HTS. Same dance, different day. Really stupid.

Sydney's party was all bunch of awesome, but I thought it was stupid to have Jennifer Horton there looking all pissed with her arms crossed. And when she is supposed to be watching Abe, she steps away so EJ can find him? Dumbass! She didn't need to be there...why didn't she call Sami?

Sami/AS was laughable today. Her pissiness was over the top! Her growling to EJ was classic, but it still annoys me to no end. Her hypocracy was over the top too!

EJ and Will were awesome, as was EJ and Sydney!
LMAO at the Nicole hate today. She was a background player for most of the show, except for her awesome comment to Rafe, but I guess when you are as fantastic as AZ, all viewers want to see is what she does!!! :) Currently, best character on the show!
Come on, Sydole!

LOL at Rafe flashing Sydney! WTF!?
Good show today! Hope there is followup tomorrow!

The kids that play Johnny and Sydney (and Allie, Ciara, Theo) really aren't related to any of these actors in real life.

Their genetic make up - including their height, hair color, eye color, etc. stem from their real life parents.

Just throwing that out there...
At the very least they could pick kids who have the most "genetic composition" to match their said on-screen parents on the show, I don't think it's that hard to manage , to stop people like myself from making assumptions.

If I'm not mistaken didn't KM have darker hair months leading to the reset and then when Jack showed up back in town her hair colour turned a lighter shade, almost making her blonde like her mother. Mind you Jen Jen is rocking that hideous platinum blonde (or is my screen lying to me?)

Kids can be made to look like their parents but I am not talking cosmetics, cast the right kids and voila!
Yeah, I think the casting agents (at least when the children are small like this and it doesn't quite matter as much) do go out of their way to cast kids that resemble their onscreen parents.

I remember when they picked the original baby Parker - they deliberately chose little twin girls who had the same dimples as JKJ.

IDK about that.I think they worked a lot harder on that in the past, like the 80s to early 90s, but now personality is a bigger consideration than looks. Remember the first Ciaras with the blond hair? The last Claires didn't look anything like shelle. Most of the Theos didn't look like his on screen parents either. ISTM that sometimes they get both looks and personality, but if they can't, they don't worry about it. Which the probably shouldn't, since don't we all know tall people in a family of short people or the one redhead in a family of brunettes?

Anyway, it's probably due to some latent shuis love on my part, but I saw some cafe chemistry during that dance. I can deal with GG when his mouth is shut. That look of disapproval Syd gave Rafe when he showed her his outfit cracked me up. I know it was just the actress, but it makes it seem like safe has no idea what Syd's into at all.

I really need Jarlena to just stop. Thank goodness for having a fast forward buffer.

I've found a happy medium right now in watching one show every other week. Its possible that I missed some things with the other stories, but everybody in this episode was doing the same thing they were when I left off. And I saved five hours by deleting all of last weeks shows. Score!

Come on Ron, We are counting on YOU !!

I almost peed in my pants when I saw the hat on Rafe. WTF? FUNNY!!!!

But I have to say I liked the episode. I like the reaction when Austin and Sami saw Rafe and Carrie, he WAS getting too close there for a second and if Austin wouldn't have opened up his mouth, then Carrie would have with Rafe, whoa. The practicing the dance didn't come out as ridiculous as I thought it would. I have a feeling that Will is not only liking this 'power' he seems to have, but EJ should be careful, he's not going to like it if Will gets out of control. I totally didn't get why Ej was pissed, seriously dude, make up your mind, either you tell Will to bring the kid over and YOU KNEW it was going to cause Sami to have a hissy fit and fuck up the party, OR you act like a freaking adult and you try to come to terms with Sami about visitation. IT shouldn't be too hard to Sami to get it, especially if you remind her what you guys did when you both thought Johnny was missing.....

Rafe flashing Sydney was hysterical and the only thing that needed to happen was her to burst out crying in a fit of hysterics.

John swallowing Marlena whole :embarrassed: and I like Jarlena.

Quoting limited to 4 levels deepright in switching babies and lying to everyone about it? Just no. :shame:
At the Horton Town Square, when EJ asked Sami's permission to approach the kids, Sydney readily came over to EJ RIGHT AWAY, it was Johnny who needed the extra OK from Sami to approach his father.

Johnny had already been infected with Sami's push/pull with EJ, screeching every chance she got that she wanted to BE with Lucas and threatening to take her child with her BEFORE Nicole came to live at the DiMansion. Where Sami is always trying to prevent the children from spending time with EJ, Nicole was ALWAYS promoting EJ and Syd's bond. Sydney's crib was SMACK IN THE MIDDLE of the DiMansion's living room, right next to EJ's desk. There were many scenes of EJ and Nicole giving Sydney her bottle in the middle of the night. EARLY BONDING is essential Child Rearing 101.
Sami and EJ lived together and shared the responsibility for caring for both Johnny and Allie from the time the twins were just a few months old until Sami left for witness protection - and then Johnny continued to live with EJ (and Nicole). Even if Sami might have been wishing she was with Lucas I don't think Johnny would have had any idea. In fact, when Lucas returned from prison there were scenes that showed that Allie showed a preference for EJ (which made sense given that was who she'd spent more time with up to that point).

As for the scenes at HTS months ago, I think the intent was to show that Johnny was still upset with EJ because he'd seen and heard the news reports about what EJ had done in regard to Rafe.

And the bottom line is - these kids' preferences are always at the whim of what plot point the writers are trying to sell at any given moment. There was a point in time when Safe had split up before EJami reunited in 2010 where we were to believe that Johnny clearly preferred EJ - to the point that Sami had to call EJ to come over and help her get him to bed.

Sydney's preferences today could be gone tomorrow based on whatever point the writers are trying to drive home.
Seriously? OF COURSE, the kids preferences are plot points. They're fictional kids! We're commenting on the story as currently written (or so I thought) not on real life kids and what their mindset would be etc etc.....

Your opinion about the HTS scenes may be that the intent was solely to show Johnny's hesitance but unless you read the writers' intent somewhere that's your take on the intent. What I saw was Sydney readily running to Daddy and that to me equals, she misses him.
Of course it's my take on the scene. Just as you have yours. That's why we discuss/debate them - because that's all we have to go on.

And OF COURSE they are fictional characters - but that doesn't lessen the fact that you can't argue that Sydney is a Daddy's girl or loves peanut butter more than jelly based on any sort of fact because the stroke of a pen can change all of it and often does. Just as the example I gave of Johnny fighting and arguing with Sami that he wanted his Daddy (conveniently around the time EJ was going to approach her about moving in to the DiMansion) and then months later acting as though EJ was the devil. You cited EARLY BONDING as being essential Child Rearing 101 yet what we saw on screen doesn't support your assertion that Johnny was 'infected' by Sami's push/pull with EJ. Johnny had a close, loving relationship with EJ until the writers changed it last Summer.

Seriously. :)

Will told EJ that Sami wouldn't be home for two hours. So EJ was angry, because he was under the impression that Sami wouldn't be in town until after the party was over and because not only did Will find out Sami was home early, he purposefully orchestrated the confrontation. I could see EJ knowing there might be a fight if Syd told Sami about the party later, but he didn't know it was going to go down in front of Syd during the party.

That was my take on it, too. I don't think EJ cared that Sami would be upset - but he wasn't happy about it upsetting Sydney and essentially ruining the party they were having.

I have to agree there was some chemistry in the Cafe dance scene - it actually caught me off guard. And I also agree that both AS and PM played the reactions of Sami and Austin very well - I liked that Sami was basically too pissed to speak but Austin stepped right up there. The John/Austin talk was good, too.

Jennifer walking around the rumpus room like Abe's security guard was just silly...and clearly ineffective as she disappeared the moment Abe was actually off doing the dirty deed and leaving it open for EJ to find him. Why wouldn't she have made a point to engage EJ in some sort of discussion? Or at the very least create a distraction? Really dumb writing.

It's so nice to see little Syd finally showing some personality and interacting with the actors. She seemed particularly comfortable with James...which worked well with the scene. I also thought she and Theo were cute together.

I don't often fast forward through any scenes but I finally gave up and did it with Bope and Stefano. The shame of it is I'm a fan of all three characters - but if I never hear mention of Alice's box again I'll be a very happy camper. Either OPEN the damned thing or drop it...but can we please stop talking about it?

Totally agree on all points! FF thru HTS/Bope - I no longer care what is in that stupid box.
I asked my hubby's opinion of Jennifer and he told me she looks mean! Jen's presence was pointless.
Sami/AS was typical with the screeching & stomping so i wasn't surprised at all, but I LOVED Sydney's responses! Finally the child speaks. And she wants her Daddy :cloud9: - her real Daddy, not the flasher pretending to be her daddy. I agree with LovingLumi that I expected Syd to burst into tears when Rafe flashed her. That would have been priceless.
I'm definitely on Team Sydole! Ari and James seemed very natural with the little girl playing Syd.

I just want ONE scene, just ONE, where EJ turns to Nicole and THANKS HER for the BABYSWITCH because all that bonding Nicole fostered between EJ and Sydney is now coming to fruition and she's a Daddy's Girl. It's no surprise Johnny's allegiance seems to be more fickle because there was no one around to support EJ's bonding with his son. Sami's focus was on getting the kids to bond with Rafe.

And honestly, since EJ was still so obsessed with Sami round one, he would've told her Syd was hers if Nic told him the truth and the fight for custody would've been from Day One. In hindsight, girlfriend Nicole was RIGHT!
I missed this earlier but THIS is something that has been bugging me forever!!! EJ should have THANKED Nicole for the babyswitch. Because of Nicole, he got to be with his daughter from DAY 1!!! I could understand his anger for Nicole's lies, but with time I think he would be grateful for the time she GAVE him with his daughter--time that SAMI intended to rob from EJ!

I think EJ should thank Nicole as well. I never understood why he got so upset with her after the big reveal, when she gave him his daughter and Sami had every intention of keeping Sydney/Grace away from him forever!!
I look for the day when EJ tells Nicole that he wishes Nicole was Sydney's mom. How much easier their life would be if that were true! (crossing fingers that it is true!)

The party was lame--well really they both were. Ciara should have been an invited guest at Sami's party and Theo as well. Rafe was attempting to make several tiaras last week--I assumed they were party favors for invited little children at the party??

Sami coming over to the mansion yelling didn't bother me at all--I would have been mad too if I was in her place. But doing it in front of Sydeny was sad. She should have taken Ej's butt chewing out outside.

And I thought Rafe was hot in his costume. I felt bad for Galen to have to wear it, but Rafe gets an A for effort in trying to please. And Carrie needs to leave town forever--Austin can stay in Salem.

Maybe I'm just in a good mood, but this doesn't sound bad to me at all.

I don't want them to make Sydney Nicole's and it has nothing to do with Ejole, Sydole, Ejami, or anything like that. If they continue to write Sydney this way, I think that's ten times better than Sydney actually being Nicole's. I like the idea of her being Sami's but having a clear preference for Nicole. I think that's way more interesting and dramatic than a happy little family. Plus it's a kick in Sami's face, and I just can't hate on that.
Cheers! I just looked at it as Syd didn't want to leave because people were actually paying attention to her and Sami (who still looks like Kazoo from the Flintstones) looks like an even bigger ass while Will gloats. Nicole's comment to Rafe on dressing himself was the other highlight for me.

Granted, nothing on a soap is tangible since the characters preferences, loves, paternities are written at the writers' whim but if that negates our ability to discuss the characters' storyline or state of mind as currently written or to attempt to make sense of something written in the past then we'd be limited to commenting on hair and wardrobe.

Johnny indeed has a loving relationship with his father and grandfather. But MY interpretation of why Johnny is more easily swayed is that the entire time Johnny was living with EJ and Samantha, Samantha had one foot out the door making loud and clear her preference for another man other than his father. Children pick up on signals. And Sami hasn't exactly been inclusive of any of her childrens' fathers in their lives. Although with EJ more so because of EJ's determination (and the fact James is still on canvas).

While Johnny lived with EJ and Nicole, although Nicole was apparently a loving stepmother from comments expressed by EJ and Johnny, Johnny was barely visible, but if we go with what we know of Nicole, I doubt she was actively advocating a further bond between father and son. She was busy fostering EJ's relationship with Sydney.

I never meant to deny Johnny's love for his father. My impression is that because of his tentative early history he gauges which way Sami is blowing and tries to mirror it more so than Sydney. Sydney was raised in a more OUTWARDLY "stable" environment and her pseudo mother openly loved her father so there was no discussion of his merits as a person.

Full disclosure: All just my opinion from the scenes as I saw them, I declare nothing as fact.
